Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison an American author, editor and professor born 1931 in Lorain , Ohio , is perhaps the most well known modern-day author.
In 1949 Morrison received B.A. in English from Howard University and in the year 1953 received a B.A. in English from Howard. In the year 1955 Morrison earned Master of Arts degree in English, from Cornell University . Morrison also worked as English instructor in 1955-1957 at Texas Southern University in Houston . Later she moved to Howard to teach English.
In the year 1958 she married Harold Morrison, a Jamaican architect and faculty member at Howard University . She worked as an editor at the New York City headquarters of Random House. Morrison played a vital role as an editor and brought black literature into the mainstream. She edited books for famous authors Toni Cade Bambara, Angela Davis and Gayl Jones.
In 1984 she was chosen as the Director of the Albert Schweitzer Chair in the Humanities at the University at Albany , from 1989-2006 Morrison was appointed as Robert F.Goheen Professor in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University .
At present she is member of the editorial board of The Nation magazine.
