Lynn Abbey is an American author born on September 8, 1948. Born in Peekskill, New York, she began publishing in 1979 with the novel Daughter of the Bright Moon and the short story "The Face of Chaos," part of a Thieves World shared world anthology. She received early encouragement from Gordon R. Dickson.

Lynn Abbey is one of the most influential and successful writers in fantasy fiction. She has written dozens of best-selling works of fiction, as well as renowned game books, in the fields of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and young adult.

Abbey's impressive career began in the early 1980s when she wrote her first novel, "Rifkind's Challenge," which was published in 1983. The novel belongs to the Thieves' World shared world series, which she co-created with Robert Lynn Asprin.

"Rifkind's Challenge" was a smash hit, garnering swift praise from critics and readers alike. Abbey soon found herself in the driver's seat of a career in fantasy writing.

In 1986, Abbey wrote the award-winning novel "Amber and Ashes," which she followed up the next year with the equally acclaimed "Labyrinth of Night." The novels were the first two of a trilogy, and attracted a massive following of both fantasy and science fiction fans. Abbey's books have been translated into a variety of languages, and she soon became one of the most renowned authors of the genre.

Abbey also wrote a series of successful game books for the renowned fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. She collaborated with Tracy Hickman, and the pair published the first book of the popular series "Dragonlance: Legends of the Twins" in 1984. Since then, Abbey has written six other Dragonlance books, as well as a number of other game books.

In the years since, Abbey has continued to write popular books, releasing works such as the "Forgotten Realms" novel "Masquerades," the "Dune" guides "Shepherd of Dune," and the fantasy thriller "Thorn of Dentonhill." She also co-authored the highly acclaimed "Grimoire: An Adventure Autobiography," which won an Origins Award. Apart from her novel writing, Abbey has also written a number of short stories and articles.

Abbey is an active contributor to the fantasy fiction world. In 2017, she founded the Lyn Abramoff Prize for Fantasy Writing, which is dedicated to inspiring and promoting authors of the genre. She has also served as a judge for the annual Origins Awards, as well as an editor for the prominent magazines "Interzone" and "Dark Horizons."

Throughout her impressive career, Abbey has demonstrated a strong understanding of the genre, and has consistently produced work of an incredibly high quality. She is adored by fantasy fans, and her books have sold millions of copies.
