Little Sisters of Eluria

"The Little Sisters of Eluria" is a short story written by Stephen King, first published in 1998 in his collection Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales.

The tale concerns Roland of Gilead, whose quest for the Dark Tower is in its infancy; the events precede those of the body of the Dark Tower cycle, but occur after Roland's experiences in Mejis as chronicled in Wizard and Glass.

To summarize the plot, Roland is attacked and apparently killed by slow mutants in the seemingly abandoned town of Eluria, before awakening in a hospital marquee. Other patients present gradually disappear, and Roland finds himself almost powerless to escape from his malevolent healers, the eponymous Little Sisters.
