The Gnome King of Oz (1927) is the 21st Oz book and the seventh by Ruth Plumly Thompson. It follows the adventures of Peter, a boy from Philadelphia who is transported by magic balloon to the Runaway Island where the wicked Gnome King is has been stranded (in Kabumpo in Oz). Peter and the Gnome King escape the island and discover and an abandoned pirate ship. While sailing to Ev, they discover a chest with a magic cloak that allows invisibility and will transport the wearer anywhere he choses. The only problem is it is ripped, and will not work.

Meanwhile, the Patchwork Girl is abducted by the Quilties, a country of seamstresses, and made their queen.
