Doris Lessing

Doris Lessing is widely regarded as one of the most vital post-war writers in English. Most of Doris Lessing novels, short stories and essays are focused on twentieth-century issues and concerns. In her early novels set in Africa she focused on the politics of race and some other works depicted the politics of gender which made her adopt the feminist movement. In her space fiction of the late 1970s and early 1980s the role of the family and the individual in society had been explored.

At the age of nineteen she married Frank Wisdom, a civil servant; they had two children. The marriage ended in 1943. In the same year Lessing married the German political activist Gottfried Lessing. Doris Lessing's second marriage was also unsuccessful. Later in 1949 she shifted to England with her youngest child.

The Grass is Singing, which appeared in 1950 was Lessing’s first novel and from then Lessing supported herself and her son by writing poems, plays, and several science fiction novels. In the year 2007 she won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

"Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" by author John Gray is very much popular book. The book includes a lot of suggestions for a better relationship between men and women. The book suggests that relationship between women and men gets stronger only through understanding the communication style and understanding the emotional needs of the opposite sex. The book emphasizes the belief that men and women are from two different planets and are two different beings. And that learning the code of conduct by the opposite sex is of essential value even if individuals do not necessarily conform to the conventional behavior.

Jerry Pinkney finally wins gold with The Lion and the Mouse

Day the 2010 Caldecott Medal was announced and Pinkney wins gold. Jerry Pinkney is the first African American to break the silver-medal ceiling since Leo Dillon back in 1976 and 1977.

The book The Lion and the Mouse guarantees both splendor and surprise. The book cover shows Lion's leery eyes look toward the back cover and Mouse is also introduced.

Inside is a fine visual of a familiar Aesop's fable. The book is all about how a poor little mouse, once safe by a mighty lion, later bites the ropes that hold his old friend (lion).

Brilliant watercolors hold the full power of storytelling. No words are used except occasional suggested sound effects - squeaks and roars you can use your own soundtrack for this textless depiction of a timeless tale.

With this book Pinkney explains that a picture is worth a thousand words. His spectacular art provides a fresh context to a classic and earns him gold Caldecott Medal.
