Orhan Pamuk

Ferit Orhan Pamuk was born in the year 1952 in Istanbul. He grew up in a big family. At the age of 22 he devoted most of the time to painting and dreamed of becoming an artist. He completed his graduation in secular American Robert College and studied architecture at Istanbul Technical University, but discarded the course when he gave up his dream to turn into an architect and artist. Later on he completed his graduation in the field of journalism from Istanbul University. Pamuk began to write stories at the age of 23.
Seven years later in 1982 his first novel Cevdet Bey and His Sons was published. His first novel was awarded both the Orhan Kemal and Milliyet literary prizes. From then his journey in writing novels continued. Pamuk’s work has sold over seven million books in more than fifty languages and this makes him the country's best-selling writer. In the year 2006 Pamuk received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
