One More Year by Sana Krasikov : Review
Krasikov's caring stories emphasize the struggle of those who have left their native soil, essentially out of necessity, but rarely of their own free will. A story involves Georgians and Russians characters, with a stolid sense of making do when conditions turn in opposition to them. Most of them are young women, they are forced to wait on tables in greasy diners or care for the elderly, while eager to find an American who will marry them and by this means they can legitimize their citizenship status.America, however, is a tough place to live if you're anxious, and for most of Krasikov's characters the light of happiness shines dimly at the end of a very long tunnel certainly.
Unfortunately, going 'back' is impossible. Sometimes, Krasikov seems to be saying in her beautifully sad way - you just can't win.
