Romanian-born German writer wins 2009 Nobel Prize in literature

Herta Müller a Romanian-born German novelist won the Nobel Prize for Literature on Friday. Herta Mueller is the 12th woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature, third European in a row to win the prize and the 10th German to win the prize.
Müller's completed 15 works of fiction in Germany. But only four out of 15 have been translated into English. The first English publisher to translate Müller's work is Pete Ayrton, at Serpent's. The Passport, in 1989, was the first book, said up to only 20,000 copies of the book had been sold in 20 years. It was expected that number to rise significantly after the book was reissued on 19 October.
56-year-old Müller is said to be thrilled with winning the prize. Besides she collects a prize of $1.4 million from the Nobel committee.
