Richard David Bach is an American writer, author, and daredevil pilot, and one of the most prolific and successful writers of the English language in the past century. He wrote over 30 books, with more than 200 million copies of his works sold in numerous languages around the world.

Bach was born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1936 and grew up on Long Island, New York. He began to write in his early teen years and soon published his first book at the age of 21. He attended Harvard University, graduating in 1960 with a degree in English.

After graduation, Bach applied for a job at the New York Times, but ended up becoming a freelance writer. His first book, Strider, was published in 1965 and soon became a best-seller, launching his career. His second book, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, was published three years later, in 1968, and turned out to be his most successful work to date. It sold over a million copies in the United States alone and won numerous awards both in the US and around the world.

Bach's books followed a similar narrative arc, blending adventure and philosophical musings about life and the human condition. They often included themes of self-discovery, the power of faith, the search for truth, and the meaning of life.

Bach was particularly interested in aviation. He started flying as a hobby, culminating in him completing a solo around-the-world trip in his small aircraft. He wrote several bestselling books about this and other flying adventures, including biographical works on his own life story.

In addition to his writing, Bach was involved in charity work, volunteering with hospices and visiting hospitals to offer comfort to the ill and dying. He also set up the Bach Foundation, which he used to fund numerous charitable causes and provide aid to animal sanctuaries, educational institutions, and others.

Richard Bach has left a lasting legacy in the world of writing, with his literary works inspiring generations and reaching out to millions. His ideas have been translated into numerous languages and still continue to resonate with readers today. His passion for aviation and life's greater mysteries have made him an inspirational figure all over the world.
